Place a visible signature on a PDF form

October 31, 2026

Read the signature request first

Before adding a signature, check what the recipient actually asks for. Document Forge places a visible drawn or typed signature image on the page. It is suitable for many ordinary forms when the recipient accepts that kind of signature, but it does not issue a certificate signature, verify identity, notarize a document or create an audit trail. A form that requires one of those steps needs the recipient’s approved process.

Find the signature line and any separate printed name or date line. A signature mark should not cover the date, acknowledgment text or another person’s signature area. If the form has a fillable name field, complete that separately rather than expecting the signature image to fill it.

Place and adjust the mark

Choose Signature and create a drawn or typed signature in the editor dialog. Place it near the intended line. Switch to Select & move, select the signature and drag it into place. The selection controls include Signature width and Edit signature when a signature is selected. Adjust the width so the whole mark fits the allocated area, and recheck its height and baseline after resizing.

At Fit page, a mark can look smaller than it will in a printed copy. Zoom in to check whether it touches the line or covers nearby labels, then return to Fit page for the overall page. If it lands on the wrong page, remove it or undo the placement and try again.

Handle repeated signature spaces carefully

An added signature can be copied using Copy to page and Duplicate selected. The copy gets its own position, so inspect and move it on the destination page. Do not use that shortcut blindly when the second line asks for initials, a witness, a different signer or a new date. Existing certificate signatures cannot be edited or duplicated by this tool.

Review & download lists the added mark with a page link. Visit the page again, prepare the PDF and inspect the downloaded file. The visible mark should be legible at ordinary reading size. Keep the original file and ask the recipient whether this signature method meets its requirements when the instructions are unclear.

If a signature appears faint on a dark or textured scan, inspect the downloaded file at normal size. Ask for a cleaner original when legibility is poor.
