Undo, redo, and clear a PDF session safely
October 31, 2026
Use history for a local mistake
If you just moved a text mark into the wrong box or placed a check on the wrong line, try Undo. Look at the page after one step so you know what was reversed. Redo restores an undone action when you changed your mind. The buttons become available only when there is an action in their history. They help with recent editor changes; they are not saved versions you can retrieve after closing the tab.
For a stray added item, Select & move and Remove selected may be clearer than stepping through several actions. If you duplicated a mark, select the extra copy. A fillable field is different from an added mark; edit the field itself when you need to correct its answer.
Know what Clear removes
Clear document opens a confirmation dialog. Keep editing closes it without discarding your session. Clear this session removes the working PDF, entries, marks and signature from this tab. It also removes the prepared download link in the editor. Use it when you are finished with a document or want to start with a different file, after you have saved the latest version you need.
Clearing does not delete the original PDF on your device or a file you already downloaded. It also does not create a recoverable copy on a server. Document Forge keeps this work in the browser tab only, so a refresh or closed tab can end the session even when you never pressed Clear.
Save and verify before starting over
Choose Review & download, inspect the listed changes, prepare the file and use Save prepared PDF if necessary. Find the file in the browser’s Downloads list and open it. Check a field and a mark that you know should be present. Only then clear the editor. If you need a second version, save it as a separate copy before clearing; the flattened download does not restore the original fillable form fields.
When you open another document, confirm its filename and first page before placing new marks. A wrong-file correction is easier at the start than after a long session. If a clear confirmation appears unexpectedly, choose Keep editing and investigate what you have already saved.
If you are interrupted mid-form, download the current usable version before leaving the device. A saved partial copy is easier to inspect than a vanished tab session.
